Beijing, July 2 — From June 23 to July 2, the China University of Petroleum-Beijing (CUP) successfully hosted the 2025 JumpStart TU "Future Energy Leaders" Summer Camp, welcoming 13 incoming freshmen and 3 faculty members from the University of Tulsa (TU). Organized under the Worldwide Energy University Network (WEUN) with CUP as its Chair Institution, the program served as a powerful platform for China-U.S. educational cooperation, bringing together students and faculty from both universities for meaningful exchange and collaboration.
The opening ceremony featured Mr. Zhang Guangqing, Vice-president of CUP and Secretary General of WEUN, who emphasized the strategic partnership between CUP and TU. "This summer camp represents exactly what WEUN was established to achieve - bringing member institutions together to create transformative educational experiences," Zhang stated. He highlighted that as the first initiative under the new "JumpStart TU" framework, the camp sets a precedent for deeper cooperation between American and Chinese universities in energy education.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in specialized lectures on "Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models" and "Carbon Neutrality and Energy Transition," while also visiting cutting-edge facilities including the Daxing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone and Xiaomi Auto Super Factory. These activities facilitated professional dialogue between CUP and TU participants, highlighting both institutions' commitment to addressing global energy challenges.
The cultural component featured visits to the Great Wall and hands-on experiences with calligraphy, martial arts, and traditional Chinese medicine. These interactions reinforced the program's role in building lasting relationships between the two universities.
By successfully bringing together CUP and TU through the WEUN framework, the summer camp has demonstrated the powerful outcomes possible through international university partnerships.
